Mark Normand Drops New Episode of Page to Stage, Shares Best Joke Tag He Ever Got
Mark Normand just released Episode 2 of his behind-the-scenes series Page to Stage on PunchUp, giving fans a full 30-minute look at how stand-up comedy gets written, tested, and performed. The documentary-style series shows every step, from brainstorming to the final punchline on stage.
In the new episode, Normand also answers a great fan question: What’s the best tag you’ve ever gotten from another comic?
He recalled a moment from his Netflix special Soup to Nuts, where he did a bit comparing restaurant specials to retiree specials. The joke worked, but another comedian suggested he add the word “slow-cooked” to the punchline. Normand gave it a shot—and it crushed. He kept it in, and it made the final cut of the special.
The story is a perfect example of how collaborative and spontaneous joke writing can be—even the smallest tweak can turn a good joke into a killer.
