Dave Chappelle recently recorded a surprise episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast while Shane Gillis was in Ohio performing at Chappelle’s club, but fans might never hear it due to major technical issues.

Shane shared the behind-the-scenes story on a recent episode, saying the podcast came together in a low-key, casual way. “We were at Chappelle’s weed… I was so scared to ask,” Shane said. “Literally rather [expletive] my pants than be like, ‘Hey can you do my podcast?’”

Despite the nerves, Chappelle agreed. They hit record, but the audio quality ended up being nearly unusable. “The mic was on the bar and [Chappelle] was just walking around. You can’t really hear him,” Shane explained. “He’ll hop in sometimes… such a power move. He knows how mics work.”

Though the conversation was memorable and personal, it may never reach the audience due to the poor sound quality. Still, fans are holding out hope that some part of the Chappelle episode makes it online—if only for the historic moment it captured.
