Charlie Day on Why He Never Did Stand-Up | No Bad Lies Podcast

Andrew Santino’s new golf-meets-comedy podcast No Bad Lies kicked off with pro golfers, but episode three took a turn when actor and funnyman Charlie Day joined as the wildcard guest.

During their conversation, Santino asked a question many fans have wondered: Why has Charlie Day, known for his sharp comedic timing, never tried stand-up? Day’s answer was simple—and funny.

“To me, that’s like someone asking how your tennis game is because there’s a tennis court at the country club,” he said. “It’s a different sport, man.” Day explained that while he can be funny in character or off the cuff, stand-up requires a completely different skill set. “Learning how to just do a set with a mic—it’s a whole other muscle.”

Santino pushed back, saying Day has the talent to train that muscle. But Day stuck to his point: acting and improv are one thing; stand-up is another game entirely.

The episode blends comedy and honest insight, and fans of both Day and Santino are calling it a standout so far.
