Comedy News Update: Episode 35

Date Posted:January 25, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of extraordinary comedian and regular "Kill Tony" guest, Michael Layer. Michael had been a recurring guest on the popular comedy podcast "Kill Tony" since his first appearance in 2019 and was the only member of the "Kill Tony Hall of Fame," which he was inducted into just one month before his assisted suicide took place last week.

The news of Michael's death sent shockwaves throughout the comedy community, with tributes pouring in from comedians and fans alike. Joe Rogan, one of Michael's peers in the industry, said in a statement, "The courageous thing that Michael had to do, stand-up while battling a debilitating disease, was insanely impressive. Though he struggled to get words out, the man would kill on stage. He was a real legend and I'm going to miss him very much."

The comedy world was also buzzing with news of a unique fashion show that took place during Paris Fashion Week. The event featured comedians such as Theo Von, Andrew Schultz, Andrew Santino, Stavros Halkias, Jeff Ross, and Mateo Lane taking the runway to tell jokes while modeling the newest fashion line from Kid Super. Designer Kal Dulane, the mastermind behind the show, said, "I like to do non-conventional fashion shows, so the idea is like it's a Comedy Central roast and I want it to go all in on fashion but I want to be tongue-in-cheek not super mean."

The show was a huge success and featured some of the biggest names in comedy. The event was covered in more detail in a video that was uploaded later in the week, highlighting some of the funniest moments on stage from the comedians.

In other comedy news, last week's guest spots included Tom Segura's mom Charo on "Your Mom's House," Bert and Louis CK on "Two Bears One Cave," Ian Edwards and Sarah Weinshank on "Kill Tony," and Sal Vulcano and Chris Distefano on "Whiskey Ginger." The weekend's comedy events included "The Joe Rogan Experience" with Louis CK, "The Blocks Podcast" with Neil Brennan, and "Tigerbelly" with TJ Miller.

As for new comedy specials, Nathaniel McIntosh recently released a YouTube special called "Money Never Wakes," which is a 45-minute set that can be found on YouTube. Nate Bargatze's new special "Hello World" will be available on Amazon Prime on January 31st. And, this weekend, Louis CK will be live streaming from the middle of Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. Tickets are on sale now on Louie's website for just $25 each.

That concludes this week's comedy update. Thank you for watching and join us again next Monday for more comedy news. In the meantime, be sure to keep an eye out for our upcoming video that dives deeper into the Paris fashion week event with comedians like Theo Von, Andrew Schultz, Andrew Santino, Jeff Ross, Mateo Lane, and Stavros Halkias.
